How many times have we said that to our kids and/or grandkids? “Just try”. How many times did I say that to numerous students/players over the course of 37 years? “Just try”. “Try a little harder”. “All you can do is Try”.
One of the things I discovered during a month of realignment was a simple acronym that I began writing in my journal every day and keeping in the front of my mind whenever I felt tempted to get out of alignment.
Today. Repeat. Yesterday.
Try to repeat today what happened yesterday.
1. Try to keep my priorities where they need to be.
2. Try to take care of my body.
3. Try to keep my heart where it needs to be as God works in and through me.
4. Try to keep my focus on the eternal.
5. Try to walk closely to how He wants me to walk.
Of course, I’m only trying to repeat the positive. But focusing on how God helped me through yesterday is encouraging me to live another day and repeat the positive things that took place in my yesterday.
I learned that realignment isn’t necessarily about making some huge change all at once. Sometimes it’s simply about paying attention to what is working, recognizing how God is helping you, and choosing to do it again today.
I’m not as concerned about what things look like at the end of the journey. I’m trying to stay focused on today.
Today. Repeat. Yesterday.
Sometimes the best way to move forward is to simply repeat the things that helped you walk well yesterday.
