Day 15: Growth in the Unease

Change stings—like leaving warm blankets in Iowa’s winter chill.  But growth hides there. 2 Corinthians 12:9 (ESV) promises, “My grace is sufficient…”

I’ve dreaded change—new jobs, goals like that 5K—yet they’ve stretched me. Embrace the unease; it’s God’s refining fire. What’s uncomfortable now?

I’ve stayed cozy, avoiding risk—stagnation crept in.  Change jolted me—cold mornings, new routines—and I grew.

God’s grace carries us through discomfort—He’s there.  You may resist, you may fear failure, but you will find strength when you step out.  You have more inside of you than you know.

Are you dodging something? Lean in—He’s enough.  Comfort is a trap—growth’s in the stretch.  What I have found uncomfortable has made me better—your discomfort might too.

Don’t shrink—expand.  How will you embrace it?  I’ve learned this slowly—each step of a lesson.

Trust His sufficiency—step into the cold. He’s forging something better—discomfort’s your ally.  What will you face today?

Questions:

  1. What change makes you uncomfortable?
  2. How can you embrace it for growth?

Day 14: Virtues Without Age

Age doesn’t limit virtue. 1 Timothy 4:12 (ESV) urges us to exemplify speech, conduct, love, faith, purity. In my 30s, I leaned on this—now in my 60s, I still do. Young or old, we learn from each other’s faith.  Pick one today—speak life, act justly, love well.

I’ve seen kids teach trust, elders show grit—God uses all.  In my youth, I stumbled; now, I mentor—both shaped me.

What virtue can you shine through?  It’s a daily call—reflect Christ in every season.  God’s not bound by years—He’s bound by hearts.  I learned in my youth and now as I’m a bit more mature—fresh zeal, seasoned wisdom.

How will you live today?  Someone’s watching—your life’s a lesson.  Start small—love in action, faith in words.  He’s crafting you—shine today, at any age.

Questions:

  1. Which virtue can you focus on today?
  2. What can you learn from others’ faith?

Day 13: Love That Lasts

Quotes inspire, but living kindly, compassionately, lovingly—that’s legacy. John 13:35 (ESV) says, “…if you have love for one another,” people will know you’re His.  I’ve seen words fade—actions stick.  A smile, a helping hand—those echo Christ.  What mark will you leave today?

It’s not about being loud; it’s about being real.  I’ve rushed past chances to care—busy, distracted—but love slows down.  The remote life that many live now with their work tempts isolation, but God calls us to connection—to show small acts that will linger.

Your choices ripple—family, friends, strangers feel it.  Don’t be too caught up, too busy, always in remote mode—don’t stay there.  Show love in the small—it is what will truly last.

What’s your legacy?  A harsh word fades; a kind one builds.  Lives shift from quiet grace—yours can too.  How will you love today?  Point to Him—He’s the source.  It’s your truest impact—start now.

Questions:

  1. How can you show kindness in an interaction today?
  2. What legacy do you want to build?

Day 12: Anchor in the Tempest

Storms test faith.  The disciples panicked, yet Jesus calmed the waves (Matthew 8:26, ESV).  My mom faced her final storm in 2004—mysterious illness, coma, gone in weeks—whispering, “We’ll just have to trust Jesus.” She did—I can too.  He’s got this, even when I doubt.  Where’s your storm raging?

Mom’s trust wasn’t blind—it was battle-tested. Hundreds prayed; God took her home.  He’s the same Savior who stilled seas—faithful then, faithful now. I’ve doubted in my storms—job woes, grief—but He’s never failed. Lean on Him—He’s proven.  Trust isn’t just for sunny days; it’s for chaos.  What’s shaking you? He’s bigger—calming, guiding.  I’ve clung to control, only to lose it—surrender won.

Rest in Him—fear fades when faith rises. How will you lean today?  Mom’s words echo—trust Him.  He’s your peace—stand firm in your storm.

Questions:

  1. Where do you struggle to trust Jesus in your storms?
  2. How can you lean on Him today?

What You Leave Behind

What is the legacy you want to leave behind?

We all love a good quote.  A quote can make us think more deeply, stir our souls and even bring about change in our lives.

While they can have some lasting impact we should not be about trying to come up with the next catchy quote or phrase to impact people.

The impact that we ultimately have on people is found, and grounded, in how our lives intersect and impact those we lead and live with, our daily contacts, and even those we may just have a brief encounter with.

If you truly want to leave your legacy be mindful of each daily interaction.

Be kind.

Be compassionate.

Be full of grace.

Be loving.

Be positive.

If you are going to leave anything behind weave these into people’s lives.
