Keep Your Dream Alive

The amount of talent in a city like Nashville is amazing.  There are thousands upon thousands of musicians in The Music City.  I would assume many of them with a dream of “making it” and being a full time musician.  The reality is that less than 1% make it.

The musicians that come to The Bourbon Street Blues and Boogie Bar ranged in age from what looked like a high school student to a guy in his 50’s that looked like he was a HS English teacher.  All with a dream.

Dreams have to big and they have to be relentlessly pursued day after day, week after week.  I would have been curious to see if a lot of the musicians that showed up last night were the same as the week before when we were there.  My guess is yes.

Are your dreams big enough?  Are you relentlessly pursuing them?  Are you keeping them alive?

Take an honest look and make an honest evaluation.  If you need to develop a plan to relentlessly pursue your dream let today be the day that you do that.

Talk to someone about it.  Message me, DM me, email me if I can help you keep your dream alive.

I’m cheering for you.

The Power Of One

Today’s excerpt is from the chapter on Focus.

Just 11 more days to get the book while it is on our book release price.

—–

Focus on what is important.  Focus on the right things.

There are many things that will fight for your attention.  You are responsible for making sure you stay focused on the things that will help you reach your goals and your dreams.  The rest you must push aside.

You also have an obligation as a leader to help those you lead to remain focused on the important and right things as well.

You can’t force them into the focus or direction they should go but you must speak the truth and point them in the right direction.

Focus on what is important today and help others to do the same.

Be Ready!

The Monday night show at The Bourbon Street Blues and Boogie Bar is called the Corey Mac Show.  They performed four songs to open the night and were phenomenal.  (You can find him on Instagram and Facebook).

Local musicians come in, sign up on a sheet on the stage and do not know when their name will be called to perform.

Corey Mac puts them in random groups and calls them to the stage.  They then have a few minutes to get on stage, tune, decide together what song they will play, click it off, and away they go, doing 3-4 songs in their 15 minute set.

The musicians have to be ready.  They do not know when their name will be called, but they have to be ready.

They have to know how to play, have an already established repitoire of music in their head ready to perform and then collaborate with others to make the music happen.

They have practiced, prepared, put the time into their craft and are ready for their name to be called.  They were amazing.

How about you?  What dreams do you have?   Are you ready for your name to be called?  If there is something you want to do have you put the time in?  Day after day have you worked to be better?

Too many people want the bright lights but aren’t willing to do the work alone, at odd hours, and do it consistently when others won’t.

Are you ready?

You don’t know when your time may come but have you done the work that needs the be done beforehand?

Have you signed up to go on to your stage and step into the lights when your name is called?

Whatever it is you want, do the work and be ready.   The results, like the musicians at The Bourbon Street Blues and Boogie Bar, will be terrific and inspiring if you are really ready.

I’m cheering for you.

Lessons From The Blues and Boogie Bar

Many of you know that I am a music lover and that I really enjoy live music.  On a recent trip to Nashville we were told by our daughter of the Bourbon Street Blues and Boogie Bar.  It was so good we went twice.

The second night we went we were treated to what they called their “open mic night.” 20-25 different musicians signing up to be put into random groups to perform for 15 minutes.  It was incredible and awesome.

Over the next few days I will share lessons learned from that one night in the Bourbon Street Blues and Boogie Bar.

I believe that you and I have lessons and things to learn in front of us every day if we just look for them.  These lessons are there to remind us of things in our leadership and personal journey.

Every experience, every moment, has the opportunity to teach us if we are mindful and take some time to reflect on those moments that we experience.

You may say I don’t have time for that.  I would counter that if you are about being better everyday then you have no choice but to take the time to learn from the daily, oftentimes routine, mundane, and unlikely teachable moments.

I look forward to sharing what I learned from four hours in The Bourbon Street Blues and Boogie Bar over the next few days.

I’d be interested to know some unlikely lessons you’ve learned from your every day moments.  Send me a DM or a message if you’d like to share them with me.

Be on the lookout for the moments you can learn from today.

I’m cheering for you.

See Further

How far can you see with your eyes?
Yards?
Miles?
Do you put a number on it?

How about in your personal life?

Can you see yourself better in the future than you are today?

Can you see past your current circumstances?

Do this today.  Look up briefly at the sun.  Hopefully it’s shining where you are.  If not, imagine where the sun is in the sky.

You can’t see for yards.  You can’t see for miles.  You can see for millions of miles.
The sun is 92.9 million miles away.

Too many people believe that their current circumstances, job, or vocation is all there is.    Too many people also believe that who they are as a person is all they will ever be.

You are limitless.  You need to see past what you think are the limits on what you do, where you are, and all you think you can be.

See further.  It, You, can be more than you ever imagined.  Don’t underestimate your potential.

I’m cheering for you.
