Did Mary Know?

Mary, Did You Know?” has always been one of my favorite Christmas songs because it asks questions none of us can fully answer. Did she know how far this story would go? Did she understand the weight of what she was carrying? Did she grasp how much her simple “yes” would change the world?

Truth be told, Mary didn’t know. She didn’t know how people would respond. She didn’t know how difficult the road would be. She didn’t know how God would unfold every detail. But she obeyed anyway. She surrendered completely—her plans, her reputation, her comfort, and her future—into God’s hands.

And because she surrendered, God did extraordinary things through her ordinary faith. The miracle didn’t begin with certainty; it began with trust. It began with a willingness to say, “Let it be to me according to Your word,” even when the outcome was unclear.

The same is true for us. God has amazing plans for your life, too. You may not see the full picture. You may not know the next steps or the final destination. But when you fully surrender—when you release control and trust Him—you won’t miss what God is doing. Often, the greatest blessings come not from knowing, but from trusting the One who does.
